Problems with size reduction and level of detail

I recently made images at Schiphol airport using my Nikon D810 with 36mp. The level of detail in the images is astounding, but to try to get the pictures published I need to reduce from 7333px to 1600px and that completely destroys all details and makes the image just not sharp anymore. I tried all reduction algorithms in photoshop, but it didn't improve a bit. Does this basically mean I just can't publish my photos anymore? It's a real pitty, but if it's so than that's what it is I'm afraid. Attached are a part of the original image and the reduced version to show what is lost.

Does anybody have ideas how to improve the size reduction?

Try to reduce in steps, from 7333 to 7000 to 6000 to 5000 to 4000, 3000, 2000, 1600.

Maybe that works?

Also us "Bicubish Sharper" and have the litte box selected with a V. (Vink het vakje aan).
