During the 1991–95 Croatian War of Independence . Mig Pilot Rudolf Peresin defected on 25 October 1991 with this MiG-21R "26112" to Graz-Tallerhof, in Austria, requesting political asylum. His defection as well as his statement that he is a "Croat and I cannot and will not fire upon my Croatia" proved to be a significant morale boost for the Croatian forces. And making this a legendary Mig21. You can still see the former markings overpainted by the austrians after his arrival there.
