The "Guppy" or "Super Guppy" was used to pick up the LEM at Grumman Aircraft
facilities in Bethpage , N.Y. That was in the early 60s. At that time it was considered to
be a vehicle built like the bumble bee which aerodynamically should not be capable of
flying and yet it does. It was a sight to be seen on its takeoff.

I have also seen it carry airplanes and other airplane parts including some really neat
space things. I used to provide security for these birds.

I lived in Hicksville near Grummans, I remember seeing the Guppy flying in and out of
there, as a young boy seeing such a BIG thing flying over head, scared the crap out of me.

I saw one at Mather AFB in '71(?) and asked if I could peek inside. If you think it looks
big on the outside, you should see the inside! I was told that one was used to transport
Saturn V rocket engines. Very impressive.

I seen one at the Navy airfield in Norfolk, circa 1982? The front was open and it looked
like a huge cave.
